5 Things to Know Today: Alpacas, Football & Free Parking

1.   Alpacas Coming to Town!

As if you needed another excuse to stop by the this Saturday, a herd of furry and friendly creatures will be on hand for all to see, pet and take pictures with at this weekend's market. That's right, the folks from Serendipity Farm -- located where  New York’s Schoharie Valley meets the Leatherstocking Region -- will be bringing along members of their herd of Stahorn Valley Alpacas, which are sure to be a kid favorite (see photos on right)! Serendipity farmers will also be there to sell their speciality products, including fleece, roving, yarn and domestic and imported clothing.

So grab the kids and come hang out with some alpacas this Saturday (and support your local vendors!) at the Bronxville Farmer's Market taking place from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and conveniently located at the corner of Stone Pl. and Paxton Ave. right off the Bronx River. 

2.   Local Football Teams Face Off This Weekend

This weekend's high school football schedule includes a cross-town matchup pinning the Tuckahoe Tigers against the Bronxville Broncos. The game will be played at Bronxville High School on Saturday at 1:30 PM. Both teams come into the game playing some very solid football, and with identical 2-0 records. In their last game, at home by a score of 42-6. Tuckahoe, on the other hand, has yet to give up a single point to its first two opponents (while scoring 52 points), and are coming off a 32-0 win over Albertus Magnus.

Across town, the Eastchester Eagles are in for a tough challenge, as they face off with Poughkeepsie (2-0) at Eastchester High School, also Saturday at 1:30 PM. In their last game, Eastchester at home against Brewster by a score of 35-20, evening their record at 1-1.

3.   Eastchester School District Continues Push to Bond Proposal

The Eastchester School District continues to release information regarding the proposed Middle School expansion project and Oct. 12 bond vote, including letters by the Board of Education President Paul Doyle, Middle School Principal Dr. Walter Moran, High School Principal Dr. Jeffrey Capuano and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marilyn Terranova.

Also available on the Eastchester School District's website is information regarding absentee ballots, voter registration, voter qualifications, enrollment history, project floor plans and FAQs about the bond. School district officials will also be holding a Eastchester Community Bond Information Meeting on October 4 in the high school library at 7:30 PM.

4.   Free Parking Space in Tuckahoe

Tired of running for your train? Frustrated with searching for a parking space? Annoyed by juggling your heavy groceries? The solution to your woes could be the Senior Citizens Council Raffle! A free parking space for one year in one of the six commuter parking lots could be just a raffle ticketaway! Tickets are available at and . Proceeds from the raffle go to support The Tuckahoe Senior Center and you could enjoy the luxury of your own parking space. 5.   Annual Columbus Day Festival Promises a Bang!

Did we mention there was going to be this weekend? Not just any old festival, however, but the Annual Columbus Day Festival in Tuckahoe, which promises to be a one of a kind experience for all ages (trust us, we got the inside scoop). The festival begins tonight at 7 PM at Depot Square, but if you can only make it one of the three days, we suggest heading down on Saturday and sticking around for the light/pyrotechnics show, which we hear will be the first of its kind to ever be held in Westchester.
