A.G. Williams Painting Supports Children's Brain Tumor Project

A.G. Williams Painting Company supported the second annual Bronxville Road Race for the Weill Cornell Children's Brain Tumor Project.

A.G. Williams Painting Company came out to support the second annual Bronxville Road Race for the Weill Cornell Children’s Brain Tumor Project. With over 300 runners taking part, the community raised $100,000 at the September 12 fundraiser.

All proceeds of the five-mile run, the 2.2-mile walk/run and the one-mile “Kids Crush Cancer Dash” are benefitting the pediatric brain tumor research at Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center. The Children’s Brain Tumor Project focuses on the research and treatment of rare and inoperable brain tumors that affect children and young adults.

“We are so grateful to A.G. Williams and all our sponsors,” says Dr. Jeffrey Greenfield, co-director of the Weill Cornell Children’s Brain Tumor Project. “By supporting the race, our local sponsors do more than just help pay our race expenses. They help us get the word out about these terrible tumors and the desperate need for research, and they show us again and again how our neighbors in Bronxville and the surrounding area are dedicated to supporting this cause.”

The CBTP was founded, in part, with the generous support of Elizabeth Minter (Bronxville High School Class of 2009) and her family, longtime residents of Bronxville. Elizabeth was diagnosed with gliomatosis cerebri in 2010 and lost her battle with the disease in 2012. Since then, the Bronxville community has played a pivotal role in supporting and funding this critical research.

A.G. Williams sponsored the Kids’ Zone, which included a face painting station as well as water painting with AGW paint kits. The kids took home their paintings, which have AGW logos on them.

“A.G. Williams Painting Company staff were excited to be a part of such a worthy event for a worthy cause,” said Paul Viggiano, Director of Business Administration, A.G. Williams Painting Company. “This race raised much-needed funds for the Children’s Brain Tumor Project and our staff were happy to support the cause.”

Elizabeth was a Bronxville High School graduate who was diagnosed in her sophomore year of college with a rare brain cancer called gliomatosis cerebri. About 200 children a year, as well as some adults, are diagnosed with GC. Elizabeth’s family were prepared for her to undergo any treatment, and were devastated to learn that no treatment was available. Due to lack of funding for this rare cancer, it was not even being researched. Sadly, Elizabeth passed away in 2012. The family started this foundation with the help of Weil Cornell to raise funds for GC and other rare and inoperable children’s brain tumors.
