A group of talented Bronxville High School students recently brought their community to life through a series of original paintings depicting various buildings and landmarks throughout the village of Bronxville.

Inspired by Edward Hopper’s renowned painting “Early Sunday Morning,” the students captured familiar scenes of their own hometown.

The project was created by students in art teacher Courtney Alan’s Art 2 class. As part of the experience, the class visited the Whitney Museum of American Art, where they participated in the museum’s “Artist as Storyteller” educational program that teaches visitors how artists act as visual authors.

“We went into town, sketched scenes in our sketchbook for a few days and the students painted their final idea,” Alan said. “The final works will be displayed in the Art Show on May 19 and should give a look into some of the beautiful locations in Bronxville in spring.”
