Sarah Lawrence College is bringing its expertise in child development, movement, and creative learning together in two new programs designed to help children build confidence, imagination, and social connection through movement.

Creative Movement and Expression is designed for children ages 3 to 5. Through imaginative movement games, rhythm activities, storytelling, and creative play, children will be encouraged to express themselves, use their imaginations, and form social connections in a supportive environment.

Movement, Creativity, and Connection gives children ages 6-10 a place to move, create, and connect without the performance pressure of a traditional dance program. Through guided movement activities, improvisation, collaborative games, and creative challenges, children will develop confidence, body awareness, imagination, and social skills.

The creative movement classes will meet on Tuesday afternoons from January 12 through March 30, 2027, on the Sarah Lawrence campus in Bronxville, New York. Leveraging the College's expertise in the field of dance/movement therapy, each class will be taught by advanced students in its Dance/Movement Therapy master's program under faculty guidance.

Enrollment is limited, and advance registration is required. To learn more or register, visit slc.edu/creative-movement.

These new offerings – part of the College's expansive portfolio of Lifelong Learning programs – draw on Sarah Lawrence's decades of work at the intersection of childhood, education, and human development. Through its Children, Childhood, and Education Collaborative, the College brings together academic programs, faculty expertise, and community resources grounded in the belief that curiosity and exploration form the foundation for a lifetime of learning.

That tradition is also embodied by the College's Early Childhood Center, one of the nation's longest-established college laboratory schools. Founded in 1937, the ECC offers progressive preschool and kindergarten programs for children ages 2 to 6 while providing Sarah Lawrence undergraduate and graduate students with opportunities for faculty-guided observation and fieldwork.
