For a fourth consecutive year, the Junior League of Bronxville partnered with Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE), and this year, Mount Vernon’s Guidance Center of Westchester to support college bound freshman women as the embark on their college careers.
Through the generous donations of our Junior League members and the community, the JLB was able to outfit the dorm rooms of approximately 26 Yonkers Public School students with essentials such as complete comforter sets, sheets, towels, pillows and a shower caddy complete with toiletries. In addition to the donations the JLB received from our Bed, Bath and Beyond and Target college registry, the JLB received a generous donation of duvet sets and decorative pillows from Dormify, a company that specializes in dorm room decor. At the “shopping” event, held in a beautiful room overlooking the Hudson River at the Yonkers Riverfront Library on May 21, the young women were able to pick and choose items to their liking. The young women, many of whom are the first to attend college in their families, were all very happy and expressed genuine gratitude. “As a women's organization, the JLB is thrilled to support these remarkable, young women as they begin the next chapter in their lives,” said Sheridan Denfeld, JLB President.
Yonkers Partners in Education is a private not-for-profit organization focusing on promoting academic achievement and higher education for students within the Yonkers school district. YPIE students have access to privately funded programs that provide tools and resources to successfully transition to a two or four-year college or university.
