Bank Scam Leads To White Plains Arrest, 'Grandson' Calls For Money: Bronxville Police Blotter

BRONXVILLE, NY โ Bronxville Police released their most recent list of blotter items, including a โgrandsonโ calling for money, possible stolen laptops and a White Plains arrest warrant. - July 16, 2017, 5:36 p.m.: An 87-year-old Summit Avenue woman reported that an unknown person called her resident and pretended to be her grandson who had been arrested and needed money to make the charges go away. She was able to determine the call was fake by asking personal questions only her grandson would know. The incident is being investigated.
- July 19, 2017, 10:21 a.m.: The director of security at Concordia College reported that seven laptops were delivered to the college and were picked up by an unknown man. He provided the college with fraudulent credentials to take possession of the laptops. It was later determined that the college did not order any laptops. Detectives are working to determine the origin of the purchase.
- July 20, 2017, 11:02 a.m.: A set of floor mats and a gasoline can were stolen form the BP Gas Station on Palmer Avenue around 4:45 a.m. July 20. The incident is being investigated.
- July 21, 2017, 3:52 p.m.: An employee at CapitalOne Bank on Parkway Road reported that a suspicious person just attempted to access an account without sufficient identification. Officers located the alleged individual on Paxton Avenue. Police said they were able to confirm the personโs identity as John Darbenzio, 21, of the Bronx. He had an active arrest warrant issued by the City of White Plains for third-degree assault. White Plains police took Darbenzio into their custody to face the assault charges. No crime was committed within the Village of Bronxville.
- July 21, 2017, 9:20 p.m.: A caller on Kensington Road reported that an unknown male was attempting to open the front door of an apartment building. When he was confronted, he fled the area on foot in an unknown direction. Officers canvassed the area but were unable to locate the male.
