Be Aware Of Chase Bank Promotion Scam: Police

The scams take place down the block from the bank branch.

YONKERS, NY — Police are warning the community of the latest scam they need to be aware of. Yonkers Police has become aware of a scam involving a Chase Bank promotion: Chase Bank advertises money awards for opening new checking and or savings account (see below). The scam involves a suspect, apparently dressed in unauthorized Chase Bank employee apparel, approaching susceptible victims outside a Chase Bank and pushing the promotion.

The police said the suspect will ask for the victim’s debit card and PIN in order to “open” the new account(s) with a promise of receiving the award money but instead leaves the area with the victim’s card and information. The suspect never enters the bank and instead defrauds the victim and empties their bank accounts.

There have been several such reported incidents involving the Chase Bank at 47 North Broadway in Yonkers, with the suspect interactions taking place down the block near the intersection of South Broadway and Prospect Street. This scam may apply to other banks or institutions and similar promotions.
