BHS Junior Wins Silver Medal, Honorable Mention For Art

Andrew Doyle's works were recognized as one of the most outstanding works among his peers.

BRONXVILLE, NY — Bronxville High School junior Andrew Doyle has won a silver medal and honorable mention for his artworks in the prestigious annual 2022 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition.

Doyle’s works were recognized as one of the most outstanding works among his peers and selected for their excellence in originality, technical skills and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. He won the silver medal for his “Garden Ave on a Winter Evening” landscape painting, which he was inspired to create after going on several quarantine walks with his sister last year.

“As I walked along this warmly lit quiet street after a snowstorm, I knew it would make for a great painting,” said Doyle, adding that while he never worked with acrylic before, his art teacher, Courtney Alan, encouraged him to take on the challenging project.

He won an honorable mention award for his “Pushing and Pulling” charcoal drawing. He created the piece as part of his Advanced Placement Art portfolio this year, which is centered around the theme of pushing and pulling.

“I decided to capture this movement from an interesting angle over my shoulder, focusing on my hands,” Doyle said. “Charcoal is my favorite medium to work with so this was a fun piece to create.”
