Boyfriend Charged in Killing of Girlfriend's Young Daughter
The incident occurred in Mount Vernon in 2014.

A 31-year-old Bronx man Monday was arraigned on a felony charge of First Degree Manslaughter in connection with the killing of his girlfriend’s young daughter, Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced.
Carlton Brown was arrested by Mount Vernon police on Friday, and stands accused of causing the death of Kali Mack in late August, 2014. She was two-and-a-half years old at the time.
According to DiFiore, on Aug. 31, 2014, at 9:32 p.m. Brown called 911 indicating Kali was in distress. Emergency Services arrives and indicated to firefighters that she fell off the bed.

She was immediately transported to Montifiore Mount Vernon Hospital.
The next day, Kali is transferred to The Children’s Hospital at Montifiore in the Bronx and admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Medical personnel from both hospitals call in reports to the State Central Registry, and Mount Vernon police and DiFiore’s office begin investigating the incident.
On Sept. 3, 2014, Kali is pronounced dead, and the next day an autopsy is performed by the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office. The determination is that the cause of death is abusive head trauma and the manner of death is homicide.
Brown remanded to county jail and is next scheduled to appear in court July 20. He faces a maximum sentence 25 years prison.
Assistant District Attorney Doreen Lloyd, Chief of the Child Abuse Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Mary Clark DiRusso are prosecuting the case.
