Eighth graders tested their computational thinking skills and game design by creating a “Rock, Paper, Scissors” game in Carole DelJuidice’s classes. As part of an assignment, the students were challenged to use prior programming knowledge of conditionals to create the game.

“Once the class finished programming, we tested out our games in the form of a class tournament,” DelJuidice said. “This gave students the ability to move around and interact with their classmates in a socially distanced setting. Most importantly, this allowed both students in school and at home to learn, play and have some fun with each other.”

As part of the class, the students have been expanding their knowledge of conditionals and building projects that rely on necessary conditions to properly function. DelJuidice said she hopes her students had fun while growing their understanding of computer science.

“I want my students to feel empowered to create anything,” she said.
