Bronxville Kindergartners Treated To A Pumpkin Patch

Bronxville Elementary School’s youngest learners were treated to their own pumpkins, which they selected from a pumpkin patch on school grounds, as part of an annual fall tradition at the district.

After the kindergartners picked out their pumpkins, they brought them back to their classrooms to closely examine and study them. They participated in a variety of hands-on activities that were designed to introduce them to different math, science and language arts concepts. During the language arts lessons, the students described and drew their pumpkins and participated in fiction and nonfiction reading and writing activities. During their math lessons, they measured the weight, height and circumference of their pumpkins. As part of their science lessons, they tested their pumpkins to learn if they float or sink in water.

The pumpkins were purchased for each kindergartner by the PTA, and the pumpkin patch was made possible thanks to the help of parent volunteers who set up and decorated the front lawn.
