Bronxville Man Pleads To Massive Tax Fraud

Authorities said he is one of the state's top tax debtors.

BRONXVILLE, NY — A Bronxville man pleaded guilty to felony tax fraud earlier this month. The state Department of Taxation and Finance announced Friday David Walsh, 58, of Bronxville, pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal tax fraud, a felony, in Albany County Court Oct. 2.

Walsh is one of the state's top tax debtors, a spokesperson for the department said.

Walsh filed his state personal income tax returns but failed to pay the tax due for 2010, 2011 and 2014.

He will pay all penalties and interest, which currently totals $573,259, in addition to the more than $2.24 million he has already paid back to the state, authorities said.

Walsh and his wife Gia surrendered to tax department investigators Sept. 20, 2018, and were charged with felony counts of criminal tax fraud.

Michael Schmidt, commissioner of taxation and finance said those who evade taxes in the state deprive communities of support for vital services and increase the burden for honest taxpayers.

"As this case demonstrates, those who commit tax fraud will be held accountable for their crimes," he said.

David Walsh is scheduled for sentencing Dec. 6.

The status of Gia Walsh's case is not known. An email requesting information from the Department of Taxation and Finance was not immediately answered due to the Columbus Day holiday.
