Bronxville Senior Crafts Award-Winning Essay About Democracy

He entered the Veterans of Foreign Wars' Voice of Democracy audio-essay competition in honor of his grandfather.

BRONXVILLE, NY — A local high school senior has been recognized for creating an engaging and inspirational civics lesson, that we could all benefit from.

Bronxville High School student Brendan Morrisroe has earned second place in the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ Voice of Democracy audio-essay competition.

He entered the competition for Post No. 7765 in Red Hook, Brooklyn, in honor of his grandfather, who served as post commander for Bernardsville, New Jersey.

In his essay, Brendan explored the greatest attributes of democracy.

The VFW is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in future generations. Established in 1947, the Voice of Democracy program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves regarding a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, nearly 25,000 students from across the country enter to win educational scholarships and incentives through the program.
