Bronxville, Tuckahoe 2 Of New York's Safest Places To Live For 2017

BRONXVILLE, NY — Several upstate New York communities and a bunch of neighborhoods in NYC dominate a new list of safest places to live. Niche.com has drilled down and created what it says are the top 100 safest places to live in the state and nationwide. The list has some of the usual suspects, and a big surprise.

The surprise is that the Hudson Valley is barely represented. But Bronxville and Tuckahoe are on the list.

Niche.com says that it determined the safest places to live by using crimes rates for murder, assault, rape, burglary and other crime statistics from the FBI and U.S. Census. This ranking assesses 9,932 places in the U.S. Statistics are primarily obtained from the FBI Uniform Crime Report and represent the most recent data available.

“The 2017 Safest Places ranking provides a comprehensive assessment of the overall safety in an area. This grade takes into account key indicators of a location's safety, including violent and property crime rates as well as resident reviews, in an attempt to measure an area's safety and security,” Niche.com says. According to Niche.com the top 5 safest places to live in the entire United States are: 1. Roosevelt Island in New York, 2. Horse Cave in Kentucky, 3. Palmer Lake in Colorado, 4. Mayfield in Pennsylvania, 5. Thomson Township in Minnesota.

Brooklyn made the Top 10 — Brooklyn, Wisconsin that is.

Making it into the nationwide Top 100 are several from New York, including Shortsville, Port Byron and Manchester between Syracuse and Rochester; Youngstown, near Buffalo; several Long Island communities and a bunch of New York City neighborhoods including City Island.

No Hudson Valley communities made it into the countrywide Top 100.

In fact, no Hudson Valley communities are on the statewide Top 10. Eight of the Top 10 are New York City neighborhoods, along with Shortsville and Kensington on Long Island.
