The Chapel School Holds Annual Make a Difference Day

Bronxville, NY- On Saturday October 19th, The Chapel School observed Make a Difference Day – a national day of community service. Teachers and parents came together to create a "service fair" with stations that provided a wide variety of projects to help those in need. Over 100 friends and families of the school participated in this day of caring.

Service projects completed at this event included making cards for soldiers overseas, decorating pillowcases for children in the hospital, creating thank you cards for the local fire department and more. There was an activity for people of all ages.

This year one of the projects was making bookmarks to support The Chapel School’s October SL2 Service Initiative “Books for Kids.”, run by TCS 8th Graders Julia Arditi and Melissa Donaghy. SL2 is a cross-over initiative between TCS's thriving Service Learning and Student Leadership Programs. Under the guidance of their teachers, Julia and Melissa created a presentation that persuaded a panel of judges to select their "Books for Kids" for this month, and they have been raising awareness and collecting books and funds to support that organization.

“I wanted to make sure we had activities for all ages, that way all our volunteers are included and excited about the projects,” stated Mrs. Kate Marino, organizer of The Chapel School’s annual event. "This event is such a great way for our school families, faculty, and staff to come together to serve those in need. Witnessing parents complete projects with their children and talk about helping others is a very rewarding experience. "

The Chapel School is a place where serving others as a way of life is promoted to all students and families. Make a Difference Day is just one occasion when Chapel puts this belief into action. Students participate in Midnight Runs, volunteer and visit Feeding Westchester, collect non-perishable food items for ECAP, and other projects to help those in need throughout the school year. Sharing time, talents, and treasures with people in the community and around the world distinguishes The Chapel School as a caring place where God's love is freely shared. "This is a great event where families and friends come together to lend a hand to those in need," said project coordinator Kate Marino. When asked about the event, the school’s Principal, Mr. Michael Schultz, stated, "The Chapel School is a place where we teach service as a way of life. We strive to Make a Difference every day in the world around us through acts of kindness."
