The Chapel School Sisters are Pastors for the Day

Bronxville, NY- “We are headed to the food bank” announced honorary pastors Michelle and Melissa, sisters serving as pastors for the day at Village Lutheran Church and The Chapel School. The students have a pretty good idea about what the responsibilities of a Pastor might entail. They experienced some of them firsthand, on Wednesday, May 18th. “Pastor for a Day” was an auction item won by their parents at The Chapel School’s yearly fundraising gala, the Gathering of Friends. The sisters worked with Village Lutheran Church Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Robert Hartwell, who showed them how to lead a Chapel service, read a Bible Story to a preschool class and deliver food to the ECAP food bank. One special part of the day included a trip to the Wartburg, Mt. Vernon, to visit with a resident. The girls helped deliver flowers and chatted with the 97 year old church member. The girls also visited Sinai Free Synagogue and talked about community partnerships with Rabbi Morris Barzilai.

During the morning Chapel service each “Pastor” was given a commemorative Pastoral Cross and special prayer book as memories of their unique experience. The day ended with lunch at Dunkin Donuts in Eastchester, because, as the girls said, “even Pastors eat.”
