COMMON CORE Field Tests Comming in June

ASK YOUR SCHOOLS ABOUT COMMON CORE FIELD TESTS!! 

WILL THEY GIVE YOU THE ANSWERS?  OR WILL THEY DODGE THE QUESTIONS AND JUST GIVE YOU BS PROPAGANDA?

Just sharing some information which I recently posted in response to a question during this all important TESTING WEEK:

Unfortunately, there is little in the way of actual statewide or city or district policy so parents may find themselves blazing this trail themselves in their own child's school. The assessments were implemented very quickly and powerfully, but with little planning or anticipation of the push back.

Some information which might be helpful to you:

The standardized tests were designed and legislated as a mechanism to rate teachers – NOT students. Our children are being used by the state. Children are being forced to sit for tests (including field testing which is the testing company using our children to sample their test questions) for the purpose of the state rating teacher performance. NOT for actual assessment of individual student performance.

There is ZERO evidence that the assessments are effective in any way in gauging actual student performance (as they were written and designed by businessmen, not educators).

Because the assessments are a teacher rating system rather than genuine student assessment, the requirement is that they be ADMINISTERED. ie: NOT that they be taken. The state cannot force our children into service, and that is why you have the right to refuse to have your child administered the test without consequence.

Unfortunately, even many of the administrators in the schools are fully unaware of these facts and so do not understand how and why this refusal movement is happening. But they are being pressured to administer the test and will insist that there are consequences. The only real consequences of students refusing the tests are that the assessment system which was put in place to unfairly "rate" teachers by using children will fail - which is the objective in refusing to allow our children to be used in this manner.

My best advice to you is to know your rights:

When parents tell the schools that they will not allow their children to be used, many are being told that the MINOR student must “refuse the test themselves”. This is a violation of parents’ rights and responsibilities for their own minor children. Remind the school administration that they do not have authority to usurp parental rights to speak on behalf of their own MINOR children.

As to what accommodations the school will provide, they are not obliged to offer an alternative. If they insist on "sit and stare", I would challenge them that that is rather brutal approach to children and I would personally keep my children home until after the test has been administered. BUT, I would remind the administration upon your child's return to school that they are NOT to be administered a make up exam as they are to be marked a REFUSAL, not ABSENT as should be indicated in your refusal letter.
