Eastchester High School Seniors Celebrate Prom
Eastchester High's seniors celebrate the close of one chapter and the beginning of another.
No thunderstorm watch could put a damper on Thursday night’s Eastchester High School senior prom.
Scores of students boarded party buses and limos for the annual event, which was held at New Rochelle’s Glen Island Harbor Club.
“This is our eighth or ninth year here at the Glen Island Harbor Club. They do a fantastic job and the kids are always happy; there is never a complaint,” said Phyllis Rothschild, a business teacher at EHS who also served as prom coordinator.

Dr. Jeffrey Capuano, the high school’s principal, said prom is one of the most celebratory events of the year for seniors as they prepare to graduate.
“This whole month is a time of celebration. This is just a summit of experience for them to really just celebrate closing out four years of high school together, enjoying their time together and starting the next phase of their lives,” he said.

Two hundred and seventy students attended the event, including 77 underclassmen.
Many of them chose a range of attire for prom, from short and sassy dresses to elegant gowns. Achieving the perfect look was no easy task for seniors like Tierney Roland.
“It was very stressful and a lot of planning was involved,” she said. I" had to get my hair done twice. It’s a whole day procedure but it’s so worth it.”
Inside the ballroom, students enjoyed music from DJ Serg Entertainment Group. The seniors even had their own theme song for the night—“E-hood State of Mind,” an original composition by seniors Greg Lyons and Jessica Reed, set to the tune of Jay-z’s "New York State of Mind."
The seniors now only have one more event to go—graduation, which will be held on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. on the baseball field.
