Eastchester, Tuckahoe and Yonkers High Schools among State's Best

Yonkers (#18), Tuckahoe (#61) and Eastchester (#100) high schools were rated among the best in New York, according to the latest ranking from U.S. News and World Report.

To come up with its best-of lists, the publication reviews nearly 30,000 schools spread among the 50 States and looks at various criteria such as student performance, Advanced Placement and STEM participation and student-teacher ratios.

• Yonkers Middle High School’s top 20 rating earned a gold award from the publication. It offers Advanced Placement courses and participates in the International Baccalaureate program, but the scores for both were not listed. The school’s national rank is 121st, and its Magnet rank is 29th.

Total enrollment for the school is 1,170 and there is a 19:1 student-to-teacher ratio. Based on test scores, 86 percent of students are proficient in English and 77 percent are proficient in mathematics.

• Tuckahoe High School’s top 65 rating earned a silver award from the publication, which also noted that the AP participation rate is 62 percent at the school. Its national rank is 529th, and its STEM rank was not listed.

Total enrollment for the school is 308 and there is a 20:1 student-to-teacher ratio. Based on test scores, 88 percent of students are proficient in English and 95 percent are proficient in mathematics.

• Eastchester Senior High School’s top 100 rating earned a silver award from the publication, which also noted that the AP participation rate is 44 percent at the school. Its national rank is 941st, and its STEM rank was not listed.

Total enrollment for the school is 926 and there is a 14:1 student-to-teacher ratio. Based on test scores, 93 percent of students are proficient in English and 96 percent are proficient in mathematics.
