Essential Information: School Board Elections and Budget Vote Tomorrow

Polls open at 6am in Eastchester and Tuckahoe; 7am in Bronxville

School board elections are tomorrow, May 18. Bronxville-Eastchester Patch brings you a rundown of the important details to know for each school district.

 

Bronxville UFSD

School Board:

There are three candidates up for three specific Board trustee seats. Each winning candidate will serve a three-year term.

Budget Highlights:

  • The 2010-2011 budget adopted by the school board is $43,496,615
  • This represents a –1.40% budget-to-budget decrease from last year
  • This represents a –1.10% decrease in the tax levy
  • 24.7 positions were eliminated. These are: 5.1 teachers, 2.7 clerical and 16.7 custodial staff, according to the newsletter put out by the district.
  • The foreign language enrichment program in the Elementary School was also eliminated, as indicated in the budget presentation

Voting for both the school board trustees and the annual budget will be held from 7 am – 9 pm at this location:

  • Bronxville School Multi-purpose Room at 177 Pondfield Rd. Use the Midland Ave. entrance.


Tuckahoe UFSD

School Board:

There are four candidates up for two Board seats. Each winning candidate will serve a three-year term.

The candidates are:

Anthony Buonocore (incumbent)

Jim Lombardi

Julio Urbina (incumbent)

Danielle Nealis

 

Budget Highlights:

  • The school board-approved budget for 2010-2011 is $27,935,935.
  • This represents a 1.23% budget to budget increase
  • This represents a 2.26% tax rate increase
  • 7.6 teaching positions were eliminated, according to the newsletter distributed by the school, along with 2 aides at the Cottle School, as indicated in the budget presentation
  •  Programs such as the school newspaper, some intramurals sports, jazz club and the hockey team were cut, according to the presentation
  • Special education revenue rose by $400,000, according to the newsletter

Voting for both the school board trustees and the annual budget will be held from 6 am – 9 pm at these three locations

  • District A: Tuckahoe Community Center at 71 Columbus Ave.
  • District B: Cottle Elementary School at 2 Siwanoy Blvd.
  • District C: Chester Heights Fire House at 10 Oregon Ave.

 

Eastchester UFSD

School Board: 

There are four candidates up for three open Board trustee positions. Each winning candidate will serve a three-year term.

The candidates are:

Paul S. Cubita (incumbent)

Paul Doyle Jr. (incumbent)

Renee Marsh

Mary Messner Martin (incumbent)

Budget Highlights:

  • The 2010-2011 budget approved by the board is $69,062,271.
  • This represents a budget-to-budget increase of 2.43%
  • This represents a tax levy increase of 3.22%
  • 26 positions have been eliminated, including 6 teachers, 7 monitors, 10 teaching assistants and 3 clerical/staff positions, as indicated in the budget presentation
  • A reduction in overtime, professional development and a salary free for the Superintendent, among other cuts, as indicated in the presentation
  • The busing referendum remains in the budget, as indicated in the "School Talk" newsletter

  • Eastchester Middle School gym at 550 White Plains Rd.
  • Garth Road residents: 235 Garth Road
