We’re celebrating the winners of the 47th Young Artists Concerto Competition at the Yonkers Philharmonic Free Concert on May 9, 2026 at 3:00.
First Prize Winner, Ben Puts, from Yonkers will perform the first movement of Lalo’s cello concerto, which reflects Lalo's Spanish-inflected Romanticism — restless, colorful, never predictable. The writing is idiomatic and demanding, showcasing the instrument's full expressive range from deep, resonant lows to singing upper register passages.
Second Prize Winner, Taira Matsumoto from Pleasantville introduces the saxophone as a solo concert instrument with Glazunov’s Concerto for Sax. Cast in a single continuous movement, the opening theme, lyric and aristocratic, displays the alto saxophone's uncanny ability to sing like the human voice.
Third Prize winner, Yuto Lim from Harrison completes the celebration of our Westchester high school students with the 1st
movement from one of the most beloved violin concertos ever written, Mendelssohn's E minor Concerto.
The Yonkers Phil will open the concert with Strauss Fruhlingstimme (Voices of Spring) This sparkling concert waltz distills everything that made Strauss the undisputed King of the Waltz. Tchaikovsky’s stirring March Slav will open the second half of the program.It unfolds from a solemn, folk-tinged opening to a triumphant conclusion incorporating the Russian Imperial anthem.
It will be a wonderful afternoon celebrating three talented Westchester high school students. Come and bring your family and friends.

Month-to-month flexible car lease company opens New York hub in Larchmont to serve surrounding communities
<a href="https://www.flexcar.com/" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">Flexcar</a>, the first and only month-to-month car lease company, today announced its expansion into New York State with the opening of its New York hub in Larchmont. The launch grows Flexcar&rsquo;s East Coast footprint and makes its flexible car leases accessible to drivers across the greater New York area.

&ldquo;Expanding into New York marks an important milestone for Flexcar as we continue to scale nationally,&rdquo; said Ryan Quinlan, President and COO of Flexcar. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re seeing strong and growing demand for greater flexibility and affordability compared to traditional car ownership, and this launch brings that model to one of the country&rsquo;s most influential markets.&rdquo;

With its New York launch, Flexcar is adding approximately 13,400 square feet of retail and lot space, providing capacity for hundreds of vehicles. The expansion is expected to create more than 20 local jobs across operations, service, and customer support roles. New York drivers will have access to Flexcar&rsquo;s diverse fleet of more than 200 makes and models, including popular options like the Nissan Rogue, Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Grand Highlander, GMC Yukon, Volvo V60 and Chevrolet Tahoe.

Flexcar&rsquo;s New York launch comes as drivers across the U.S. increasingly choose flexible alternatives to traditional car ownership. Recently, Flexcar drivers surpassed <a href="https://www.flexcar.com/blog/flexcar-launches-in-california-as-company-surpasses-300-million-miles-driven" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">300 million miles driven</a> nationwide, underscoring growing demand for month-to-month mobility solutions that adapt to how people actually live and drive.&nbsp;

At a time when gas prices are rising nationwide, Flexcar is also helping drivers reduce everyday costs at the pump.
