Van Gogh and Gauguin in Arles Lecture by Jerrilyn Dodds

For two months in 1888, Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin shared a home and studio at Arles, in the south of France.  These two uniquely powerful artists came together for very different reasons, yet during this tumultuous, creative and ultimately tragic period, each would have a transformative impact on the other's art and life.

Dean of Sarah Lawrence College, Jerrilyn Dodds has lectured at the Metropolitan Museum's Grace Rainey Rogers auditorium for over a decade.  She has taught at Columbia University, MIT, Harvard University and the City University of New York.  Her co-authored work "The Arts of Intimacy:Christians, Jews and Muslims in the Making of Castilian Culture" was one of the NY Times "2009 Books of the Year" and was awarded the 2010 Albert C. Outler book prize.
