Former Hudson Valley Doc Accused Of Stealing $500K+ From 97YO

The former physician faces an 11-count indictment.

EASTCHESTER, NY — A former physician is facing multiple felonies after being accused of stealing more than a a half-million dollars from a 98-year-old Yonkers woman. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said Tuesday that Peter Corines, 69, of Eastchester was arraigned on an 11-count indictment.

He pleaded not guilty to the following:

  • Second-degree grand larceny, felony
  • Second-degree attempted grand larceny, felony
  • Five counts of third-degree attempted grand larceny, felonies
  • Three counts of first-degree identity theft, felonies
  • First-degree scheme to defraud, felony

Scarpino said, during a two-week period in November 2017, Corines stole from Bernice Judd Porter by falsely claiming to be her power of attorney or pretending to be the woman on the phone or online with numerous financial institutions where she had accounts.

Authorities said Corines, by claiming to be the woman's power of attorney, and therefore claiming to be acting in her best interests, went into various banks and withdrew money from her accounts.

By pretending to be Judd Porter, he called various mutual funds and transferred money from her accounts.

Corines also set up online accounts from various mutual funds and transferred money from her accounts without her permission or consent.

Scarpino said Corines stole a total of $540,106.60. He is also charged with attempting to steal an additional $262,171.49 during the same two-week period.

Corines remains out on bail. His next court appearance is set for July 10.
