Grand Jury Votes To Indict Yonkers Teen In Fatal Movie Theater Stabbing

Police identified several witnesses and used surveillance video to determine who they thought stabbed the movie house employee. breaking

YONKERS, NY — An indictment has been handed down in the fatal stabbing in April at a movie theater in Ridge Hill in Yonkers. A grand jury voted to indict Michael Pettiford, 16, of Yonkers, for the killing of Asante Thomas, 19, who was an employee of the Showcase Cinema De Lux.

Pettiford will be arraigned Monday on second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and two counts of first-degree robbery, all felonies, as well as other lesser charges, lohud.com said.

A not guilty plea was entered by Pettiford at his arraignment in April in Yonkers City Court.

Pettiford was arrested April 18. Police said he stabbed Thomas at 12:44 a.m. Saturday, April 15.

Detectives identified several witnesses and reviewed video surveillance and determined Pettiford allegedly was the assailant.

The murder weapon was recovered at the scene.
