Habitat For Humanity Students Connect With Bronxville Community Members

Members of Bronxville High School’s Habitat for Humanity Club are finding creative ways to stay connected with the community. The students chatted with senior citizens in a Valentine’s Day-themed meeting, held over Zoom on Feb. 9.

“Since we are not engaging in builds, the club is looking for ways to help during the pandemic,” said teacher Chris Doyle, who co-advises the club with fellow teacher Zhanna Cabrera.

Devavrat Tarwala, a freshman, organized the meeting in hopes of bridging the age gap between the two groups and establishing new friendships.

“Being a friend for others during these times is the best thing we can do,” Tarwala said. “We cannot hold in-person events to help others during this pandemic, but I found out that just talking to someone can brighten both their day and yours. Brightening someone else’s day by simply talking to them and being their friend is extremely rewarding.”

During the meeting, the students and senior citizens participated in Valentine’s Day-themed trivia, discussed their hobbies, favorite songs and movies, and engaged in pleasant conversation. Tarwala said club members hope to make the meetings a regular event for the remainder of the school year.
