Health-care Workers Hold Informational Picket at NYP-Lawrence Hospital
The union members have been in negotiations for a contract since last year.
BRONXVILLE, NY — Union members who work at NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital held an information picket Tuesday afternoon over their fight for a contract.
Organizers for 1199SEIU said they’ve been in negotiations with the hospital since October 2015, trying to get wages and a pension in line with the contract of other union members in the NewYork-Presbyterian health system.
Union member Andrea Prince said the community needed to understand why Lawrence Hospital is treating its worker differently from other hospitals in the NYP system.

“When you disrespect the hospital’s workers, you are also disrespecting the patients who count on us for care, comfort and services,” she said.
“It’s time the hospital starts to work cooperatively with us and settle a fair contract now,” Prince said.

Union organizers said the informational picket was not a strike, and no health-care services were interrupted.
Geoff Thompson, spokesman for NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital, said the hospital is committed to working with the union in an effort to reach a contract that is fair to both our SIEU employees and the hospital.
“We continue to negotiate in good faith with Local 1199,” he said.
