"I have been teaching in undergraduate and graduate writing programs for over twenty years. Prior to teaching, I never enrolled in a writing class in college or graduate school; however, I did study and learn from the exceptional teachers I found on the bookshelves, in the libraries and in bookstores. This is a personal presentation that will explore how the careful reading of poems by established poets including Kunitz, Gregg, Soto, Hugo, etc. strengthened my own writing and will enhance students' poems who incorporate some of their techniques."
