Letter to the Editor: Waverly Parents Support the Eastchester Middle School Bond

The Waverly School Parent Teacher Association Executive Board speaks ahead of the October 12 Middle School bond vote.

To the editor:

The Middle School cannot meet the requirements and mandates to educate our children in a competitive global market place. This proposed Bond Referendum is about the addition of much needed classroom space: 14 new and renovated classrooms, including two science labs and two instructional spaces, additional bathrooms, an expanded cafeteria and an elevator. The construction plan will provide a relocation of Special Education classes to a more appropriate location. This school expansion is about seats for our children and an environment that is conducive to learning.

Recently, we conducted our own vote on the Middle School Bond at our Open House and found that our parent community recognizes the need and overwhelming supports the Bond: The final tally showed 224 "Yes" votes to 8 "No" votes. As a result, the Waverly PTA formerly endorsed the Bond and we encourage all Eastchester district residents to vote yes in the upcoming bond vote on October 12.
