UPDATE: Police Release Name of Bronx Man in Fatal Motorcycle Crash

The accident occurred Friday morning on I-87 in Yonkers.

Updated at 2:19 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2015: Roberto I. Santiago, 22, of the Bronx, has been identified by police as the victim of the fatal motorcycle crash Friday morning on I-87 in Yonkers.

Original story: A 22-year-old Bronx man died early Friday after his motorcycle struck a median barrier on I-87 in Yonkers, according to state police.

The crash occurred at about 2 a.m. The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was driving a 2001 Kawasaki southbound on I-87 near McLean Avenue when he failed to negotiate a curve and struck the left concrete median barrier.

State police said he was traveling at a high rate of speed and was thrown from the bike.

The motorcycle continued approximately a tenth of a mile and became engulfed in flames. Yonkers firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the fire and assisted with traffic control.
