Marathon Effort Raises Money for The Chapel School Scholarship Fund

Bronxville, NY- On Sunday, November 1, 2015, five members of Village Lutheran Church and The Chapel School community ran the TCS New York City Marathon on behalf of scholarships for the Chapel School students.

The Team Coach and Senior Pastor of the Church and School, Rev. Dr. Robert Hartwell, helped form the charity run several years ago. Runners are given a goal of raising at least $3,000. According the Development Office Program Manager, Kim Zwisdak, “All money raised by the team members goes to help support scholarship assistance for deserving students that otherwise may not be able to attend the Chapel School.” The private, Christian day school has received gifts totaling over $15,000. “It is truly inspiring to see the dedication and perseverance of our team members.” The team would check in periodically before the marathon and share words of encouragement and training tips. “Aside from committing to raise $3,000 for The Chapel School Scholarship Fund, each runner had to train physically and mentally to run the 26.2 mile long course. We are so thankful for our Team Chapel runners and their supporters.” Team Chapel’s runners for 2015 included: Chris Gleason, Laurie Meehan, Scott Geminn, Ron Drews, and Stephanie Raubenheimer. When commenting about the race, Chris said, “Amazing support from family and friends yesterday! Their energy paired with the hundreds of thousands of other New Yorkers made this an incredible experience! Although a humbling experience in many ways too.”
