Meeting To Approve Empire City Casino Sale Canceled

The meeting was postponed until further notice.

YONKERS, NY — There will be no meeting to approve the sale to MGM of the Yonkers Raceway and Empire City Casino Thursday. The state Gaming Commission abruptly canceled the meeting.

While the commission said the meeting's been postponed until further notice, an email from a commissioner said the cancellation was a quorum issue, the Journal News said.

Yonkers Racing Corporation, the owner and operator of Empire City Casino, said in May it had entered into an agreement to sell its racing and gaming property and operations to MGM Resorts International.

MGM would reportedly pay $850 million.

If Empire City was awarded a live table games license on or before Dec. 31, 2022, and MGM accepted the license by Dec. 31, 2024, MGM had agreed to pay an additional $50 million.
