Westchester County, N.Y. - (January 24, 2017) – NewYork-Presbyterian announced a series of community events available to the public in the month of February. From free screenings to cooking classes, many of this month’s events are focused on heart health throughout NewYork-Presbyterian’s campuses in Westchester.

Healthy Heart Fair POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER

February 9, 9:00 am-Noon

Commit to get heart healthy this year! Cardiologists, primary care physicians and stroke specialists will be on hand to share information and answer questions. Free screenings are available and experts will teach about the importance of nutrition, physical therapy and exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle and avoid risks associated with heart disease. Enjoy light refreshments; giveaways and raffles will be held.

Chocolate Making Workshop

This Valentine’s Day join Chef Adam Strauss in cooking a special Valentine’s meal that features the color red. In this home-style cooking class, students will prepare a salad using an unlikely ingredient: strawberries! Students will also prepare pizza, an entrée and a dessert to make an incredible meal.

“Lunch and Learn” lecture: Stroke -What You Need to Know with Dr. Yael Rappeport

Dr. Yael Rappeport, a neurologist with NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Hudson Valley and a member of the American Academy of Neurology, will discuss the signs and symptoms of stroke, types of treatments, steps to take for prevention, and the latest research findings. Weight Loss Surgery Support Group

This support group meeting is for anyone who has already had weight-loss surgery and for people considering bariatric surgery options. Group leaders from the Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery of Columbia University Medical Center at NYP Lawrence Hospital will facilitate a discussion of dietary changes and strategies to help patients adjust to their new healthy lifestyle. Participants will also learn from, share information and support each other.
