Pair Arraigned For Stealing $500K Worth Of Cash, Jewelry

One of the men faces the possibility of life in prison if convicted.

EASTCHESTER, NY — Two Bronx men were arraigned Tuesday on charges stemming from two separate incidents including the burglary of an Eastchester apartment in April where more than a half million dollars in cash and jewelry were stolen. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said Asan Sefuloski, 28, and Morris Santaniello, 64, were indicted by a grand jury on the following charges:

  • Two counts of second-degree burglary, felonies
  • Second-degree grand larceny, felony

On the charges of burglary and grand larceny, Scarpino said, on April 9, the men broke into a Garth Road apartment in Eastchester where they found a safe containing more than $500,000 in cash and other property which they took.

Using surveillance video and other information, detectives and investigators were able to identify Sefuloski and Santaniello.

On April 12, a search warrant was issued in the Bronx that resulted in the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of jewelry and cash. The second defendant was arrested at another location.

Additional warrants were executed over time and resulted in the recovery of more than $400,000. At the time of this arrest, Santaniello was on parole in the Bronx.

During the investigation, Sefuloski and Santaniello were linked to another break-in earlier in the year. Police said, on Feb. 21, the two men broke into a building on Garrett Place in Yonkers but didn’t steal anything.

Following Tuesday’s arraignment, Sefuloski is free on bail. He faces 15 years in prison if convicted.

Santaniello remains in jail because of four prior felony convictions. If convicted of these crimes, he faces 25 years to life in prison.

Both men are scheduled to appear in court Aug. 7.
