Poetry Reading Program to be held on March 9, 2016 by The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College

Admission to this program is free.

For poetry lovers, The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville will hold a special “showcase” two-hour gathering on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Former students will read from their early and later work during this program. Admission is free and open to the public.

“Whether you love poetry, or are thinking of picking up a pen yourself, come experience the community of writers at The Writing Institute,” said Patricia Dunn, Director of The Writing Institute and Assistant Dean, Graduate and Professional Studies.

The participating writers will include:

  • Carla Carlson. A Bronxville resident, her poems have appeared in many journals; she will read from her debut book Love and Oranges.
  • Marion Brown. Her books include The Morning After Summer and Tasted.
  • Linda Hillman Chayes. She explores language and memory and marriage in her poetry and will read from her book The Lapse.
  • Caroline Holme. She will recite from her first poetry collection Cold Crumbling.

Instructor Ellen Sexton is in charge of the evening’s activities and will introduce the presenters.

Sexton’s poems, reviews, essays, and visual work have appeared in numerous journals and sites including American Poetry Review, Art in America, Poetry, Poetry Daily, and O! The Oprah Magazine. She is a former editor of ARTnews, a member of the National Book Critics Circle, and an active micro-press editor and publisher.
