Updated at 2:48 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015: The New York Daily News reports that a suspect was killed and another person was injured in Tuesday’s chase from the Bronx onto the Saw Mill Parkway in Yonkers.

NYPD officers shot and killed the suspect near Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers. Two suspects were fleeing police in a silver Nissan when they crashed into another car on the Saw Mill, prompting police to temporarily shut down the thruway in both directions at about noon.

Details of the chase, and what started it, are still being investigated.

The pursuit and shut down of the Saw Mill snarled traffic in the area, and prompted the nearby Hastings-on-Hudson School District to place its school on “lock out” status, meaning students and faculty conducted classes as normal but no one was permitted into - or allowed to leave - any of the school buildings for about an hour.

“At approximately 12:15 PM today, we were contacted by the Hastings Police Department and told that the Saw Mill Parkway was closed in Yonkers following a crash that was reportedly tied to a police pursuit out of NYC,” wrote Hastings School Superintendent Dr. Roy Montesano in an email to parents. “Further, there were reports that the crash involved three men who were potentially armed. According to the reports we received, two men were in custody and police were in pursuit of the third suspect. As a precautionary measure, we placed our schools in a ’lock-out’ situation.”

He added that the lock out was handled professionally and that students and faculty were never in danger.
