Sarah Lawrence Selects New President
The new president will take over at the end of July 2017.

BRONXVILLE, NY — Trustees of Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville have named a new president.
Cristle Collins Judd will become the college’s 11th president, succeeding Dr. Karen R. Lawrence who tenure will end July 2017.
Judd joins the college from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, where she is senior program officer for higher education and scholarship in the humanities.

Prior to that she served for nine years as dean for academic affairs and professor of music at Bowdoin College.
Judd earned her bachelor of music and master of music degrees in music performance and musicology from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. She received her master of music and doctorate in music theory from King’s College, University of London.

Judd’s research has been widely published and she has served on the boards of the Society for Music Theory and the American Musicological Society.
Mark P. Goodman, chairman of the college’s presidential search committee and its board of trustees, said Judd is the ideal person to lead the college and to build on its recent successes.
“She is a proven leader, a dedicated teacher, a distinguished scholar and an astute observer of the American higher education landscape,” he said.
“Cristle’s career has given her a broad network within and beyond the academy and a valuable, wide-aperture understanding of liberal arts colleges across the country and the opportunities and challenges they face today.”
Judd is married to Robert Judd, the executive director of the American Musicological society. They have three daughters who are all in their 20s.
