Sarah Lawrence Tops Forbes List of Most Expensive Colleges...Again.

With overall tuition costs up about 4.5% nationwide for private universities, Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville tops the nationwide list for the second year in a row at $58,334 per academic year.

For students and parents, tuition increases have become, for better or worse, the norm in the past decade as rising enrollment and an economic recession has yielded a recipe for higher education facilities nationwide to continuously raise the cost of a college education.

In years past, Sarah Lawrence College has been known for being one of the most expensive colleges for students to attend and according to forbes.com, this school year from 2011-2012, the college received top honors as being the most expensive in the U.S. coming in at a total cost of $58,334 for tuition, fees, room and board.

This number does not included however financial aid, which about 65% of students receive at Sarah Lawrence and also academic scholarships which may reduce the overall cost dramatically.

Freshman Michael Zana commented on the high tuition prices, saying that despite the cost, you get what you pay for.

"We get a lot of benefits and resources for our studies being students here," remarked Zana who added that, "my friend was a sculptor and the college approved a trip to Germany for him to study abroad, paying for much of the expenses."

Other students on campus expressed similar feelings on how Sarah Lawrence College tends to give back to their students.

"Your paying for an individualized education," stated Colleen McGovern who came to Sarah Lawrence despite out-of-state tuition fees from New Jersey.

She added that, "the college gives you a lot of things such as extra vouchers for meals, printing needs and a lot of other resources that help make our experience great and our classes easier."

Still, despite what individual experience students may have, the vast majority of college students are not just left with the bill for tuition and room and board, but also expenses such as books, personal expenses, medical insurance that Sarah Lawrence offers and day-to-day living expenses, all of which add up to even more expenditures.
