Several Yonkers Businesses Damaged by Fire
The blaze started on South Broadway at about 11 p.m. on Thursday.

An overnight fire in Yonkers Thursday night carried over into the early morning hours and required five alarms to contain, according to Kempter’s Fire Wire and The Journal News.
The fire broke out among a row of businesses at 5 South Broadway, many of which were damaged by smoke and water.
Several firefighters suffered minor injuries battling the blaze, which too several hours to bring under control.

“As soon as they got there, there was heavy fire in the building,” Yonkers Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Ford told The Journal News.
The nearby, 200-plus year-old St. John’s Episcopal Church suffered some smoke damage but was spared by firefighters before the blaze could reach it.

The Yonkers fire is the second this week in Westchester that damaged businesses. An early morning fire in Mount Vernon destroyed several businesses on Gramatan Avenue.
