St. Joseph School Christmas Care Package Project for the Troops

Helping the U.S. Marines this Christmas season

The students of St. Joseph School participated in a collection to help Captain John Murtagh of the United States Marines, a St. Joseph School graduate (Class of 2001), and his battalion of 180 men and women stationed overseas. The students packed 45 boxes which were filled to the brim with various snacks, socks, gloves and personal care items. They also collected fleece blankets, t-shirts and sweatshirts that the troops had requested. Each box included handwritten Christmas cards from the students. As the school gathered for this photo, Captain Murtagh's mother was able to surprised us all with a call from her son. It was truly a magical Christmas moment to hear him speaking to our students from half way around the globe. He said they are all very much looking forward to the arrival of the packages and thanked us for our love and support.

The Christmas Care Package Project was a team effort! The Religious Education students at St. Joseph's collected over $600 to defray the shipping costs. Also, the postal workers at the Bronxville Post Office were able to get the packages processed on an early Saturday morning in the midst of their holiday rush.

Wishing you all the very best of the Christmas season!
