Sunday Series: Bronxville Lake Wildlife
A look through the lens of Bronxville-based photographer Jay Wilson.

Welcome to Sunday Series, a photographic look at Bronxville, Tuckahoe and Eastchester through the lens of Bronxville-based photographer Jay Wilson. Every week, we'll post a new photo, taken by Wilson, depicting life in the three communities.
July 25: Having a teething five month old at home means that I get less sleep than I'm used to. I promised myself I'd get out for a bike ride last Sunday morning, and despite a decided lack of rest the previous night, I managed to head north along the Bronx River with the Johnny Cash version of "Sunday Morning Coming Down" playing in my head.

I spotted this Great Egret on the east end of Bronxville lake, and quickly made a detour on my bike to get closer. Even with a 300mm zoom lens, he was a bit distant, and eventually flew away, going north towards Tuckahoe. I attempted to race after him, to no avail.
Fortunately, on my return home, I came across him (her?) again at the south end of the lake. The egret was more amenable to having his portrait taken this time, stoically posing in between cleaning his feathers and searching for his Sunday brunch in the waters of the lake.
