The Art of Jack Moran in Bronxville

All this month, artist Jack Moran's work can be viewed in the gallery of the Bronxville Women's Club and on Sunday, an opening reception was held in his honor.

 

After living in Bronxville for more than 60 years, it wasn't difficult for artist Jack Moran to fill out the gallery hall of the on Sunday as the 86 year-old hosted his first ever gallery opening.

What began as a little kid drawing sketches of cowboys has grown into a lifelong love affair of art and once retired, Moran decided that he wanted to further pursue his hobby and talent by enrolling in Art Classes at the Pelham Arts Center.

"It's amazing that at my age, you really don't have to lose your dexterity and you are constantly learning," stated Moran as he mingled with the dozens of art lovers who could be seen admiring his work of both sketches, oil paintings, abstract and still life art.

Moran had over 35 portraits on display, some that took him literally under an hour and others that took days of work until they were completed.

"He's fun and willing to take chances which is important as an artist," said Eleanor Miller, Moran's art teacher of over a decade now and a 20 year veteran teacher at the Pelham Arts Center.

Amazingly, Moran not only has the ability to paint an outdoor scene by observation, but also from mere pictures he finds in magazines and even the New York Times.

"It really has added greatly to my life and even more importantly, has been lots of fun and I'm just thrilled that I could showcase all of this work on a day like today," beamed Moran.
