Travel the World Through the Work of Artist Flora Meyers

"A Study in Travel," the exhibit by Bronxville resident and artist Flora Meyers is now on display at the Bronxville Public Library.

For an early summer getaway, there's no need to board a train, plane or bus—all that's required is a trip to the Bronxville Library Yaeger Community Room Gallery.

That's where, from now until June 30, the exhibit "A Study in Travel," by Bronxville resident and artist Flora Meyers is on display. The exhibit features paintings of her travels to places like the Caribbean, Italy, Peru, Hungary and throughout the U.S, which Meyers created using bold oil paints and watercolors,

"When I travel, I don't see what other people might see. I have a different perspective, and it is very detailed because I am an artist. I paint memories. I always travel with a camera, because I want to sketch and paint it just as I first saw it."  Meyers explained.

Meyers is an avid reader and often spends time at the library.

"I love the Bronxville Library—the space is nice and the selection of books is great. The setting is also wonderful. The reason I chose to show my work there is because the library caters to artists. I love going there to view the works of other artists, and to see how they are motivated."

Library Directory Laura Eckley is also happy to have Meyers' work on display for the community.

"We are delighted to have such a wonderful exhibit here highlighting travel to kick off the summer. Many people and families travel in the summer, hopefully they will be inspired to travel and see the places that are the subjects of her paintings," she said.

Originally from Bogota, Columbia, Meyers has been painting since she was a little girl.

"As a child I traveled a lot with my parents and siblings in Columbia to the mountains and rivers, which allowed me to develop an appreciation of the environment and my surroundings. Being in nature and its environment inspires me," she said, "I also had great teachers in school that saw my talent and gift. They encouraged me to pursue my passion of painting."

Meyers went on to study art at El Colegio Major de Cundinamarca in Bogota, Colombia and has won numerous awards for her work.

When asked which piece in the exhibit is her favorite, Meyers answered, "All of my paintings are my babies, which I created and birthed. With children you don't have a favorite, they're all unique and have their own personality but you love them all the same."

The exhibit "A Story in Travel" will be on display in the Yaeger Community Room Gallery at the Bronxville Library until June 30.
