Tuckahoe Schools to Assist with Development of Future Chromebooks

The district launched its Chromebook-based "Technology for All" initiative in the fall.

Representatives from South Korea-based Samsung’s Education Team will visit the Tuckahoe School District Thursday “to observe Chromebook use in the classroom, student handling of devices, cart storage, and more,” school officials announced.

The visit is designed to help Samsung in the development of future Chromebooks, inexpensive cloud-based laptop computers that are being utilized in schools throughout the country.

Tuckahoe was chosen “because of the district’s progressive approach in ensuring access to technological devices for all students as well as their integration of Chromebooks into daily instruction,” according to the district.

The district launched a “Technology for All” initiative in the fall in which 700 Chromebooks were purchased to give every student in grades three through 12 access to a laptop in the classroom.

Samsung representatives, including technical developers and engineers, also will meet with the district’s technology team to review the Google Management Console, used to manage the devices. The reps will study how it is used by the district and how it handles on-site repairs.
