Tuckahoe Woman Jailed on Assault Charge in Connection With Her Mother’s Death

The Tuckahoe police department considers the incident a homicide and is awaiting the results of an autopsy.

A 47-year-old Tuckahoe woman is in County Jail on an assault charge as police conduct a homicide investigation into her mother's death.  

The victim’s son had called police at 4:49 p.m. Feb. 8 to the Lake Avenue home where the mother and daughter lived. Initially, the report was that Dorothy Carraturo, 70,  had been injured from a fall, police said.

Carraturo was taken to Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville. She had been on the kitchen floor for more than four hours before she was found and had a broken hip, abrasions and contusions, police said.

She told her other son that she had been assaulted, according to the release.

At 9:48 p.m. that night, police charged the victim’s daughter, Denise Castracucco, with felony assault. She was arraigned, with bail set at $15,000. Unable to make bail, Castracucco was sent to the County Jail, according to police.

Carraturo died Feb. 9. An autopsy was scheduled for the morning of Feb. 10 and police are awaiting the results, the release stated.

The County DA’s office, the County Department of Public Safety and the County Medical Examiner’s office are all assisting with the investigation.
