Village Lutheran Church & The Chapel School Collect School Kits for Refugees

Bronxville, NY- The Village Lutheran Church, Lutheran Women’s Mission League, chose once again collect and process school kits for Lutheran World Relief. Members of the church congregation and school community were encouraged to participate and collect school kit items from August 1- September 13. According to Lutheran World Relief “These supplies mean the difference between getting an education or not. Public school is usually free, but in the places where LWR works, even a few required supplies, like pens and paper, may be more than many families can afford.”

Over one hundred kits were collected and sent to the main warehouse in Baltimore, Maryland. The kits will then be packed along with other donations and shipped out to children in need. Currently, many of these kits are being sent to help Syrian refugee children so that they can continue their education in their adverse living arrangements. According to The Chapel School Librarian, and member of Village Lutheran Church LWML, “We were responding to a special plea for more kits made late last spring by LWR. We setup our collection to coincide with back to school sales, so we could further enhance our donations.” Once packed in shipping cartons, members of The Chapel School eighth grade class carried the boxes to the local shipping center. The kits were shipped with a special barcode tracking and the church will be notified of their final destination.
