Westchester County Police Officer Injured This Morning after Being Hit by Car in Yonkers

The incident occurred on the Cross County Parkway.

A Westchester County police officer was injured early this morning after he was struck by a car on the Cross County Parkway eastbound in Yonkers, according to authorities.

The officer, whose name has not been released, was at the scene of a separate minor accident when he was hit at about 4 a.m.

Police spokesman Kieran O’Leary told Patch that the officer was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx with non-life-threatening injuries. He was still at the hospital as of 9:15 a.m., but the department anticipates that he will be released some time later today.

The accident occurred where the parkway splits into local and express lanes. The driver was passing by the minor accident - where a car had struck a light pole - when they hit the officer.

“The driver who hit the cop stopped,” said O’Leary, adding that the driver’s name has not been released. “Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor and no criminality is suspected on the driver’s part.”
