Yonkers Man Arraigned in Mother's Stabbing Death
The defendant allegedly told a security guard he had killed her.

A Yonkers man was arraigned Wednesday in the stabbing death of his mother earlier this year.
Andre Coverdale, 27, who has no known address, was charged with second-degree murder and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies, said Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty.
Around 12:30 p.m. January 16, 2016, it is alleged Coverdale walked up to the security booth at 2 Schroeder St. in Yonkers and told the security officer that he had just killed his mother.

He asked the officer to call the police and stayed at the guard booth until the police arrived.
The body of Dawne McCray was found in bed in her apartment at that address.

She died of multiple stab wounds of the face and neck, involving a carotid artery and jugular veins. The wounds resulted in massive bleeding.
A knife was found on a window sill in the living room.
Coverdale entered a plea of not guilty and was remanded. His next court appearance is May 11, 2016.
