YONKERS, NY — The SPCA of Westchester announced Thursday that their Humane Law Enforcement Unit, under the direction of Ernest Lungaro and Yonkers Police Officer William Pataky, in a joint investigation, arrested Deshawn Williams, 26, Victor Street in Yonkers. Williams was arrested on Sept. 5 for stabbing an 8-month-old female pit bull in her back. No veterinary care was provided for the puppy until authorities were notified and took control of the dog two days later.

The SPCA of Westchester’s HLE Unit were alerted on Jan. 3 that a pit bull had been stabbed on New Year's Day and was bleeding from the injury. The anonymous caller added that the dog was still at the Victor Street address for the past two days without any medical attention. Upon discovering the injured dog, authorities took control of the puppy. Yonkers Animal Shelter also responded and transported the pit bull puppy for immediate veterinarian care.

Following a thorough examination by a veterinarian at Central Animal Hospital, the dog was found to have a deep stab wound to the left back area. The wound was not treated prior to the puppy’s arrival to Central Animal Hospital.

According to the veterinarian, the wound should have been sutured and antibiotics started. The puppy remained hospitalized for several days before being transported to the Yonkers Animal Shelter. The dog has since been adopted and is fully recovered and doing well.
