BROOKLYN, NY— A new affordable senior housing development in Bushwick adds 153 units designed for low-income older adults, including formerly homeless seniors, as part of a broader city effort to expand aging-in-place options.
Linden Grove, located at 223 Linden Street, is a 13-story, 100,000-square-foot residential building offering studio and one-bedroom apartments reserved for seniors earning 30 to 40 percent of the Area Median Income.
The development includes 46 units designated for formerly homeless seniors.
The project is part of New York City’s Seniors First initiative, which focuses on expanding long-term affordable housing for older residents, including developments on city-owned and NYCHA-controlled land.
Developers Gilbane Development, Blue Sea Development Company, and JASA noted the building was constructed using modular methods and meets Passive House standards, along with LEED and National Green Building Standard certifications.
The design emphasizes reduced energy use and long-term sustainability.
The building includes a range of amenities intended to support independent living, including an indoor fitness center, outdoor exercise space, rooftop seating areas, laundry facilities, raised garden beds and shared community space for social programming.
JASA provides on-site services such as case management, wellness checks, healthcare navigation, benefits assistance and community activities aimed at supporting resident health and stability.
Additional features include solar panels, smart thermostats, video intercom systems and Wi-Fi-enabled infrastructure designed to support energy efficiency and modern accessibility.
City officials and housing organizations describe projects like Linden Grove as part of a continued effort to address senior housing demand in New York City while integrating supportive services into affordable housing developments.
