BROOKLYN, NY — A Brooklyn man who was beaten by two police officers inside a liquor store during a mistaken identity arrest earlier this month has filed a $100 million lawsuit.
Timothy Brown is accusing police officers of misconduct, using excessive force and violating his constitutional rights during the April 14 incident.
The violent arrest was caught on video and went viral after the incident. In the video you can see Brown being repeatedly punched, and his head slammed into a counter window.
According to police, the two detectives were conducting an undercover operation and thought Brown fit the description of a suspect.
The NYPD later acknowledged Brown was not the suspect in question but still charged him with resisting arrest. Prosecutors eventually dropped those charges.
The lawsuit names Det. Volkan Maden and Det. Michael Algerio as the two officer involved in the incident.
Brown and his lawyers are claiming that the officers did not use their body-worn cameras and did not identify themselves when they entered the liquor store.
According to the lawsuit, Brown suffered permanent scarring, facial injuries and is having difficulty walking after the incident.
Brown told reporters he will never be the same again and that he was brutally beaten for no reason.
"What happened to me should never happen to anyone else."
